CDC/Inktober 8 - Hellmouth

GOODNESS GRACIOUS I saw this on tumblr and I just had to stop for a while, because I think we've all encountered a piece that speaks to you, but this is such a rare occurrence of a DESIGN speaking to me. I feel like you could approach this creature with wariness, but not fear- until it unravels and poses itself as a threat.
One thing that obviously catches my attention is the eye and mask- it looks like the eye is the "real" part, and it's vibrant, visible, but the eye still draws towards the dull mask that sticks out in its somber nature contrasting with the rest of the design. It reminds me of deep-sea fish using a light to lure in prey, only here the threat is posed clear with teeth bared, but that tiny mask could still distract you enough and lure you into thinking this creature is something safe. I mean, obviously that's also because there is a silhouette resemblance to a bishop's hat- regardless, it's a very well thought out design, and I adore it beyond words ;u;
